Maine Bound Spring 2014 Outdoor Adventure Trips and Courses: Spring 2014 Schedule
For all trips that list a Pre-Trip meeting, that meeting is scheduled for 6:00 p.m. on the Thursday before the trip at Maine Bound. Registration deadline is 5:00 p.m. on the Thursday before the trip.

Katahdin Winter Ascent
Jan 24-25, Jan 31-Feb 1, Feb 7-8
This is considered one of America’s elite winter mountains to summit, and often deemed a true test for those gearing up for ascents on other continents. We’ll make the drive to Baxter, ski in, camp out Friday night, wake up dark and early to start making our push for the summit.
Moonlit Cross Country Ski
Explore the University Forest at night under the light of a full moon while also experiencing a leisurely ski on the trails. We will decide the best trails to view the moon from based on where it will be rising. This is a great opportunity to try out XC skiing if you are new to the sport and to also view the familiar forests in an unfamiliar light. 6-8pm Friday evening.
Geocaching and Snowshoeing
Intro to Geocaching by way of snowshoeing! We will be learning GPS basics and the fun of Geocaching then heading to Bangor City Forest to snowshoe our way to hunt for trinkets in the snow!
Wilderness First Aid
Designed for groups and their leaders, this 16-hour hands-on program covers topics ranging from preparation/prevention to assessment and treatment. Lectures and discussions are supplemented by practical work and problem-solving exercises. A SOLO certification course. Also qualifies as a WFR re-certification.
Acadia X-Country Skiing
Have you ever wanted to learn to cross country ski? Here is your chance. We will spend a day on the carriage trails of Acadia National Park, learning the basics of cross country skiing. Any level of experience is welcome.
Chick Hill Hike and Yoga
Enjoy a wonderful hike up our local “mountain”, Chick Hill, and then stretch out at the top with some yoga!
Intro to Multi-pitch Climbing
This course is an opportunity to experience the joy of multi-pitch rock climbing. You will enjoy the scenic views and fresh ocean air of Acadia National Park while hanging out on the side of a cliff. Each participant will have a chance to experience climbs ranging from two to three pitches.
Intro to Sea Kayaking
For this trip we will be exploring the coastline of Bar Harbor and Acadia National Park for the day throughout the Porcupine Islands. Our licensed Maine Guides will be teaching some of the basics of sea kayaking, navigation and leave no trace in an island landscape, along with technical paddling skills.
White Water Kayaking in Central Maine
Have you ever heard the roar of a raging river or seen the beauty of a whitewater rapid? Why not take it to the next level and get a front row seat for all the excitement whitewater has to offer. During this course we will cover the basics that you will need to have a safe and exciting whitewater experience and develop skills that will enable you to continue further kayaking in the future.
Climbing in Acadia
Rock Climbing at the Precipice in Acadia National Park, while learning about its unique geography and characteristics. Enjoy beautiful views of the ocean while climbing steep and exciting rock faces! You are guaranteed to get to the top of the rock with our expert Maine Bound staff.
Stonington Sea Kayak Weekend
May 3 – May 4
Enjoy a weekend of Sea Kayaking and camping around the scenic islands off the coast of Stonington. Our licensed Maine Guides can teach you navigation, adapting to changes in conditions, paddling skills, and the LNT essentials of island camping.
Southern Spring SUP
May 14-18, 2014
Itching to get paddling or interested in trying Stand up paddle boarding? The coast of Maine is still mighty cold in May, so time to head south! This 5-day SUP adventure in scenic Westport, MA is designed for all skill levels. We will explore many of the various aspects of what SUP has to offer, including: technique and board control Surfing video analysis downwind journeys ocean navigation and planning SUP specific workouts. In addition, there is a local SUP Race on Saturday morning, in which anyone interested will have a chance to participate. It’s just three miles! So come warm up a little faster and get ready for a safe fun summer on the water.
Ice Climbing Clinics

Interested in ice climbing, but need to stay close to campus? Join us on our ice climbing clinics and learn the basics of ice climbing as we head into downtown Bangor to experience some of the joyful aspects of what freezing temperatures can offer.
Lead Climbing Clinics

This class will teach lead belaying and climbing on our tower at the Maine Bound Adventure Center. This class is required for lead climbing in the gym.
Kayak Roll Clinics
Wednesdays Jan 29, Feb 26, March 26, April 23
Our experienced paddle staff will teach you the fundamentals of escaping your boat if you flip and the step by step sequence that will have you on your way to a great kayak roll.
Winter Community Climb
Saturdays Jan 11, Feb 8, March 15, April 12
A new program introducing local residents to the fun sport of indoor rock climbing! Designed for families and children with a wide range of climbing abilities. Our staff will be on hand to instruct and engage with climbers, while providing a fun and friendly atmosphere.
Non-Member: $15 per family
(up to 2 adults and 2 children). $3 for each additional child and $5 for each additional adult.
