Faculty Highlights - Robert Lad
Ceramic science has advanced so many products in our everyday lives — from cell phones, computers and televisions to sports equipment, construction materials and vehicle braking systems. At UMaine’s Laboratory for Surface Science and Technology, physicist Robert Lad and his research team have developed unique instrumentation and new techniques for “growing” and characterizing the chemical, structural, electronic and mechanical properties of ceramic films. A key aspect is the ability to control the atomic-level defects in films that control and change their properties.
