News from the Muddy Mustangs
After many rained-out mounted meetings the Muddy Mustangs of Jefferson had a fun and exciting first unmounted meeting of the year. As there were many new members, the leader and last year’s president taught the pledge, the meaning of the 4-Hs and some of the fun things we can do in 4-H. Many eyes lit up at some of the descriptions. We also discussed project records, how to do them, the reason for them and the Awards Night.
Then we were on to the business of electing new officers. Livy R. is the President, Emma A. and Emma G. are the Vice Presidents, Lily G. is the Treasurer, Jordan F. is the secretary, and Lyla C. (me!) is the Club Reporter. Congratulations to everyone and thank you for helping. With so many horse-crazy kids, I think it is going to be a great year!!
After the business part of the meeting, we did a cool activity of making a horsey alphabet book. Working with partners, we chose letters from the alphabet, and then we drew and decorated with pictures and words starting with that letter. Many of us decorated two letters. When we were finished they looked really good.
On Saturday, November 5, 2011 we went to Stonewall Stables. While they were having a clinic, we ran a concession booth. We sold breakfast and lunch foods like muffins, Danishes, hot dogs, corn chowder, chili and cookies, as well as hot cocoa, coffee, tea and soda. It was very cold that day, so the warm food was welcomed by the riders and teachers. The money we raised for our club will be welcome to our treasury.
The most exciting news for members of the Muddy Mustangs 4-H group is that Hundred Acre Wood, where we do our riding lessons for our mounted meetings, has finished their indoor riding ring. Now we can ride no matter what the weather is doing outside!
