Welcome to the home page of our International Affairs program. The University of Maine’s International Affairs major is a discipline with broad dimensions, one that integrates the information, strategies, and techniques of a variety of disciplines (Political Science, Anthropology, History, Women’s Studies, Canadian Studies, and Modern Languages) to study and understand complex relations among nations. Our graduates find that an International Affairs major is extremely flexible in terms of the variety of jobs it prepares them to pursue. A high percentage of our students pursue graduate work in international and public affairs. Other students directly enter the fields of international business, public service, journalism, and international humanitarian work.
Students extend their learning beyond the classroom. A student-run organization called the International Affairs Association (IAA) plays a major role in international education at UM. The IAA brings visitors of international distinction to campus for lectures and informal discussions with students, organizes special cultural events, such as film festivals and a bon voyage party for study abroad students, organizes participation in the McGill Model United Nations at Montreal every January, and takes a leading role in bringing together other student organizations who have an interest in international affairs.
Our International Affairs home page has comprehensive up-to-date information on curriculum and requirements, faculty, study abroad opportunities, and links to other International Affairs sites. Feel free to browse our page, and if you have any questions, do not hesitate to contact us.
