Study Abroad Programs - Kyushu Institute of Technology

Kyushi Institute of Technology, also called Kyutech, is located in Fukuoka Prefecture on the island of Kyushu. Its focus is on science and technology. As of May 1, 2010, 4363 undergraduate students and 1700 graduate student, 6063 in total, attend Kyutech. Of those, 192 students come from a various countries in Asia, Europe and South American.

Kyutech consists of 3 campuses: School of Engineering in Tobata, Kitakyushu City, our original campus; School of Computer Science and Systems Engineering in Iizuka City; and, Graduate School of Life Science and Systems Engineering, playing a core role in Kitakyushu Science Research Park in Wakamatsu, Kitakyushu City. School of Engineering targets on fundamental engineering with its focus on manufacturing; School of Computer Science and Systems Engineering, on information engineering with concentration to advanced information technology; and, Graduate School of Life Science and Systems Engineering evolving around collaborations with national, public and private universities and “All Japan” Liaison Office, targeting interdisciplinary engineering for life principle.

Faculty Coordinator

Prof. Rick Eason in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering is the faculty coordinator for this direct exchange program. Students can contact Prof. Eason to learn more about the academic program at Kyutech.

Academics

The language of instruction is Japanese. Students may inquire during the application period of the possibility to make special arrangements to work with a faculty member at Kyushu who speaks English. Campus Life

Cost

Students applying for the direct exchange program to Kyutech will be billed for 15 credit hours of tuition and fees at UMaine per semester, and will pay room and board at Kyutech.

Housing

International students may live in Kyutech’s International Houses, accommodations managed by the prefecture or the cities, or private apartments. Visit the Housing website for further information
