Griffith University is located on the east coast of Australia. It has five campuses between Brisbane and the Gold Coast in south-east Queensland. Brisbane is a cultural, riverside city of 1.6 million. The Brisbane campuses (Nathan, Mt Gravatt) are in a suburban setting about 20 minutes from the heart of the beautiful, clean city where there is always something fun to do. The Southbank campus is located in the heart of the city’s cultural precinct close to the CBD. There are markets, plays, stores, clubs, art galleries, rock climbing walls, skydiving, sports venues, museums, river cruises, outdoor cafes, weekly exhibits and fairs, zoos, and more. Some beautiful beaches are 30 minutes away. The Gold Coast campus is 1 hour from Brisbane on the coast. With over 300 degrees, Griffith University has an extensive range of study options.

General information:
The semester dates at Griffith University are different than the semester dates at UMaine because Australia is located in the southern hemisphere. Australian universities have summer vacation in December and January. Visit the Academic Calendar.
Semester 1 (UMaine’s spring semester) - February to June
Semester 2 (UMaine’s fall semester) - July to November
Academics:
A standard course at Griffith is 10 credit points and is considered to equate to approximately 10 hours per week, including all forms of teaching contact and private study. A typical full-time study load at Griffith is 40 credit points. Most Study Abroad students take 3-4 courses at Griffith (10 credit points each). The approximate credit transfer:

Cost:
The University of Maine has a Direct Enroll agreement with Griffith University. UMaine students receive a 10% discount of the tuition rate at Griffith per semester from A$8,280 to A$7,452 (Australian dollars). All cost is paid directly to Griffith University. UMaine financial aid funds are applicable to this study abroad program. Students should check with the Office of Financial Aid for specific information about their financial aid award. Application process:
- Students must apply to UMaine to study abroad by submitting the Application to Study Abroad and the $100 non-refundable application fee by February 20 for fall semester abroad and October 15 for spring semester abroad.
- Application materials MUST be submitted to the Study Abroad Advisor who will prepare a UMaine nomination letter and mail all materials to Griffith University. The following application materials need to be submitted to the Study Abroad Advisor by April 1 for fall start date and October 1for spring semester abroad:
- Direct Enroll Application form - select at least 6 courses for each semester
- Student Conduct Release Form - submit to Office of Student Affairs, 3rd floor, Memorial Union
- Recommendation form
- Official transcript (certified by the Study Abroad Advisor)
- Copy of Passport Page
- 2 passport photos
