C.K. has worked in the field of International Education (Education Abroad, International Student & Scholar Services, and International Enrollment Management) for more than 15 years. He has extensive experience in all aspects of International Education at the higher education system level (University of North Carolina System) and individual higher education institutions, from developing new study abroad/exchange agreements, foreign credential evaluation, developing international student programming to international admission and recruitment. Besides C.K.’s professional experience in International Education he has a Ph.D. in Educational Policy and Administration with an emphasis and interest in International Education from the University of Minnesota – Twin Cities and an MBA. C.K. also holds an adjunct instructor appointment at the Vietnamese Germany University in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam and has taught and presented at a number of NAFSA National and regional Conferences, NAFSA Summer Institute, higher education institutions around the world, and NASPA national conference. C.K. currently holds leadership roles in NAFSA Trainer Corps and Teaching, Learning and Scholarship Knowledge Community.

Sarah has been advising students and scholars on immigration issues and cultural transition since September, 2003. Her background is in advocacy, immigration and legal services and she has had a life long love of travel and international affairs. She is a graduate of the University of Vermont and in 1991 she studied at the University of Lancaster in the UK. In 1998 while teaching ESL, she had the opportunity to travel throughout Korea and visit both China and Japan.

A native of Bulgaria, Orlina earned her undergraduate degree at the American University in Bulgaria, and her graduate degrees at the University of Maine in Student Development in Higher Education and History. She spent her junior year abroad at the University of Maine. Orlina joined this office in April 2009.

Mireille is a native of Brittany, France and joined the office in 1998. Mireille advises international students, faculty and staff on various immigration issues such as program extensions, visa applications, travel abroad and overall maintenance of immigration status. She also maintains the Student and Exchange Visitor Information System (SEVIS). Mireille oversees Women of the World, a support group for international women in our area.

Lois moved to Maine from Florida in October of 2000 and has worked in the OIP since February of 2003. She handles administrative and financial matters and assists students with their bills and scholarships.

Susan joined the staff in 2001. She works with UMaine students going overseas as well as short-term visiting students from UMaine’s exchange partner schools, assisting the Study Abroad Advisor with prior approval, pre-departure orientation, transfer credit, and other aspects of the program. Susan is active with the American Association of University Women and does volunteer work for Maine Public Broadcasting and other community agencies.

Valerie joined the staff in 2005. She is responsible for international undergraduate admissions applications as well as receptionist duties.
