New Employees - Email Addresses

As an employee at UMaine you may have two email addresses.

  • University of Maine System (UMS) Account:
  • UMaine Account:

Your UMS account is your preferred email account and is assigned upon being entered as an employee into the MaineStreet system. Within MaineStreet your address is referred to as your “business” email. Important system emails are sent to this account. Information on accessing this account is available from Information Technology Services (ITS).

The UMaine account is often referred to as your FirstClass Account and needs to be requested from Information Technologies (IT). Information on accessing FirstClass is available from IT.

Both accounts can be activated by contacting the IT Help Center. (581-2506; 17 Shibles Hall)

UMS email can be forward to your UMaine account or vice versa.

You may want to add your UMaine email address to your record in MaineStreet so that it will appear as your preferred address in the Faculty/Staff Directory.
