Professional or classified employees who reduce their work schedule, meaning fewer hours worked in a week (voluntarily or involuntarily), are eligible for the applicable part-time benefits (increased costs for health insurance, no eligibility for retirement). However, employees who work no less than half time but have five or more years of continuous full-time equivalent regular service are eligible for Benefits Regular (BR) status. Part-time employees who work at least half time who achieve this length of service are automatically designated Benefits Regular (BR). This status is available for classified and professional employees.
Employees whose service qualifies them for BR status are eligible for health insurance coverage at the same premium rate paid by full-time regular employees. They may also continue participation in the applicable retirement plan. Employee benefits which are related to salary are based on the reduced, part-time salary. Other benefits, such as tuition waiver, vacation accrual, etc., are those as for part-time employees.
