National History Day Winners 2014

Forty-seven of the top finishers at the Maine contest in 2014 were able to travel to Washington DC in June to compete at the national contest in large part thanks to generous financial support from Joe and Suzanne Cyr.  At the national competition, Noah Binette of Noble High School won first place in the Senior Division Individual Exhibit for his presentation “Magala Island:  The Community that Maine Erased.”  It focused on 45 mixed-race residents who were evicted from their homes in 1912.  Noah’s exhibit is now on display at the Smithsonian National Museum of American History and has been chosen for display in New York at the annual conference of the American Historical Association.
