Course Descriptions: Fall 2014 - HTY 105: Western Civilization (3000 BCE – 1700)

Instructor:  Professor Alex Grab

Time:  Tuesday and Thursday; 9:30 – 10:45 AM

Description:  This course will explore society, culture, and political conditions in the Near East and Europe from about 3000 BCE to 1700. We will discuss historical developments in the Ancient Mesopotamia and Egypt, Greece, Rome, the Middle Ages, Renaissance and Reformation, Age of Exploration, and 16-17th centuries. We will cover topics such as social classes, monarchies, wars, revolutions, economic systems, new ideas, art, and the history of the three monotheistic religions: Judaism, Christianity and Islam.
