Course Descriptions: Fall 2013 - HTY 332: Womanhood in America

Instructor:  Mazie Hough

Time:  Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, 12:10-1:00 p.m.

Description:  This course is an introduction to the history of American women from colonial times to the present.  It is designed to expose you to what women did and what they were told to do, and to the tension between the two.  You will be reading about both “famous” and ordinary women, and will have the opportunity to read what women had to say about themselves and their lives.  We will pay particular attention to the ways in which race, class, and ethnicity shaped women’s experiences.
