Course Descriptions: Fall 2013 - HTY 103: U.S. History I to 1877

Instructor:  Liam Riordan

Time:  Monday and Friday, 10:00-10:50 a.m. (Lecture); Wednesday, times vary for discussion sections.

Description:  This introductory survey examines the basic forces that created the United States from pre-colonial Native American civilizations through the Civil War and Reconstruction.  Class meets three times a week, for lectures on Monday and Friday and for small-group discussion sections every Wednesday.  You must register for both the lecture and the “recitation” components of the course, which combines a large and small-group format.  This course is designed as an introduction to U.S. history, the historical discipline, and how to succeed in a university-level course.
