Description: This course surveys basic themes in U.S. history from 1877 to present and introduces students to the methods of the historian. Exams and other assignments are designed to encourage a mastery of the material and to help students develop effective skills for analyzing, interpreting, and writing about historical change. Topics include industrialization, immigration, protest and reform, political change and the emergence of the United States as a world power.
This course meets the Western Cultural Tradition or Social Contexts and Institutions General Education Requirements.
