Educational Programs - New – Eat Well Volunteer Program
The University of Maine Cooperative Extension’s new Eat Well Volunteer Program is currently underway. Participants are being trained to teach clients of food pantries and community meal sites about nutrition, food preparation, and food safety using fresh garden produce. The hands-on volunteer training consists of seven weekly sessions at the Hancock County Extension Office, plus 5 hours of online training. The training is held on Tuesday afternoons from May 6th through June 24th. After completing the 30 hours of training, participants will provide 30 hours of volunteer service conducting lessons at a local food pantry or community meal site. UMaine Extension staff have created the educational lessons and materials that are used at the community sites. The volunteer community outreach will occur from July through October, with fresh produce donated through Maine Harvest for Hunger program.
