Nearly 100 Hancock County businesses, schools and churches from 20 towns helped collect over 7,250 food items. The food was divided among the 10 food pantries serving our area. Without the help and support of everyone involved in this effort, this amazing outcome could not have been accomplished.
Estimating the poundage at approximately 7,000 lbs, that translates to 5,385 meals and a dollar value of more than $8,500. Adding the $12,500 in cash donated by United Way of Eastern Maine, Maine Community Foundation, and private donors, the grand total equals 13,305 meals based on Feeding America’s formula. That is a lot of help for the many families in our area who are struggling in the tough economy. Again, without the combined effort of many in Hancock County this wouldn’t be possible, a wonderful demonstration of the power of a lot of people doing their part.
