    • Green Team stirred the creation of a compost committee, whose purpose is to increase campus wide composting at UMaine.
    • R.E.A.C.H. & Green Team held another contra dance, this time in Estabrooke.
  • Spring 2010

    • Single Stream Recycling
      • Green Team worked with Property Management to begin a single stream recycling pilot program at the university.
      • After a presentation by Greg Edwards, the UMaine Student Government passed a resolution in favor of single stream.
      • Green Team wrote to president Kennedy asking for his support of single stream at UMaine.
      • Green Team provided single stream recycling the16th annual  Hope Festival.
    • Earth Day
      • Green Team organized an information fair in the Memorial Union on the 40th anniversary of Earth Day
      • At night, Green Team & R.E.A.C.H. held a free contra dance in the Union.
      • All day, single stream recycling bins were available in the Union.
    • Dining Services
      • Green Team met with dining services to increase sustainability by reducing their use of plastic and increasing their non-meat options.
      • Specifically, disposable black plastic containers at Nature’s Palate were replaced with containers that can be composted.

 

  • Fall 2009

    • New Officers
      • Greg Edwards was elected as Green Teams 2nd President.
      • Paul Wilsone became Vice President
      • Minna Mathiasson became VP of programming
      • Laura Brehm became VP of Communication
      • Hope Hopkins became VP of Finance
    • Sierra Club
      • Green Team collected hundreds of post cards, addressed to Senator’s Snow and Collins, asking the senators to support strong clean energy legislation such as the Clean Energy and American Power Act.
    • Clean Energy Rally
      • Green Team’s effort during the fall of 2009 culminated with the holding of a clean energy rally.
    • Repower America
      • Green Team members were very involved in this grass roots campaign for Clean Energy.  Repower America, founded by Al Gore, has the goal of converting America to 100% clean energy.  This clean energy approach helps with climate change and the current economic recession.  Members had people write letters to their senators and record video testimonials.

    • Powervote
      • The Powervote Pledge Cards Students Supporting the Pledge ->power vote poster
      • We got over 900 UMaine students to sign the pledge
      • Democratic Party Chairman Howard Dean visits campus and agrees to pledge
      • What is the pledge?
      • A “non-partisan campaign to engage millions more in demanding real solutions to global warming, like wind and solar power, efficient buildings, and sustainable transportation… [to] reduce harmful global warming pollution [and] create millions of new jobs and revitalize our economy”
    • O.A.R. Concert and Town Hall Event
      • Welcomed the band O.A.R. to the UMaine campus
      • Displays at the O.A.R. Concertgreen team in audience
    • Town Hall Event
      • Presented “what is out there” in terms of green jobs in conjunction with a number of local sustainable-minded businesses and nonprofit organizations
