Cooperative Extension: Grains & Oilseeds

Site Navigation:

Small grains have long played an important role in Maine agriculture, and their value is increasing with new and local markets for a greater variety of grains. Here you will find information on growing small grains and oilseeds for feed, food, and energy.

Our Maine Grain and Oilseed Newsletter provides production and research information to Maine’s grain and oilseed producers. Information includes tips on production, fertility, marketing, pest management, and more.

Our Northern New England Local Bread Wheat website provides information specific to growing food grade grains, including crop enterprise budgets, factsheets on wheat quality standards, and production, research reports, and videos of local grains in Denmark and Quebec.

Our Maine Grain Conference is held annually in late winter and features topics related to production, processing and local use of food and feed grains, with expert speakers from around the region.  The next Maine Grain Conference will be held in February or March of 2015 in Bangor, Maine. Check back in late fall for more information.
