The 1 Million Bones Project: (Contact office of Multicultural Programs for more information)
A nationwide social justice project aimed at raising awareness of the Genocide worldwide and educating people in a fun, dynamic and interactive way. The process involves making bones (in any shape) out of Paper Mache, Clay, or Cardboard. Each bone is a visual reminder of an abuse suffered or a life lost. Ever bone created through this initiative generates $1.00 donation, up to $500,000 to charities for their work on the ground in Somalia and the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
In the Spring, students from UMaine will travel to Washington DC to join with other people involved in the project in laying $1,000,000 bones on the Mall in DC. Visit www.onemillionbones.org.
For more information, please contact LGBT Coordinator, Chelsea Barker on first class.
