FALMOUTH –– University of Maine Cooperative Extension and organizers of the Portland Flower Show are looking for young people’s ideas on how to make a garden timeless –– keeping it productive and efficient –– as part of the flower show’s seventh annual student essay contest.
The Portland Flower Show is scheduled March 7–11, 2013 at the Portland Company Complex, 58 Fore Street. Maine residents ages 6–18 are invited to participate. Three prizes –– $50, $30 and $20 –– will be awarded in each of the three age categories, 6–9, 10–13 and 14–18. Essays will be judged on criteria such as creativity, focus and passion about the topic. Winning essays will be announced at the show’s opening night preview, Wednesday, March 6, and selected essays will be posted for public viewing throughout the show.
The deadline for submitting entries is Friday, February 8.
