Information for New Students - Transfer Student Information

As a transfer student new to UMaine you have two different options for your arrival to campus.  These two options are outlined below.

New student move-in (which typically includes all new first-year students) is scheduled for Friday, August 29.  This day-long event is referred to as Maine Hello, and is a special day for our staff and faculty to welcome our new students to campus.  As a new student you are welcome to arrive on campus on Friday, August 29.  By choosing to arrive on Friday you will also be given the opportunity to participate in all of the Fall Welcome Weekend activities.

  • You may plan to arrive anytime on this day between 8:00am and 11:00pm.  Due to our limited number of volunteers assisting on this day, volunteers who will be helping students move their belongings into the buildings will only be present at our first-year residence halls. We apologize for any inconvenience.

Option 2:

All returning students move in to their residence halls on Monday, September 1 beginning at 10:00am.  Especially if you are an upper-class student who is not interested in taking part in the Fall Welcome Weekend events that occur over the weekend this option may be for you.

  • All students who plan to arrive on this day, regardless of housing assignment, may plan to arrive starting at 10:00am.  Our front desks will be staffed in all residence halls from 10:00am-11:00pm on this day in order to accommodate students throughout the day. As this move-in day is primarily for returning students, no move-in assistance is provided.

Please note that our residence hall front desks will not be staffed on Saturday, August 30 or on Sunday, August 31 due to a multitude of other events occurring around campus on those days.  Thus, no arrivals are being approved for these days because our staff will not be available to check students into their assigned rooms.

For questions about housing assignments please contact Housing Services at 207-581-4580 or at
