French after-school program for K-5

Franco American Programs runs an after-school French program for children in grades K-5.  It is designed for those with no exposure to French and for those with some experience in the language. Our aim is to make learning French fun in a safe, after-school environment.  We also seek to connect French language learners with heritage language speakers in our area.

The classes are organized by ability, and students are taught by French and Education college students.

This year, we are reserving the last half-hour of classes for visits from local Francophones. We’re hoping to have visits from traditional fiddle players, storytellers, and French speakers from the French communities in Maine and all over the world. Parents are welcome to join us for this last half-hour; we’ll be sending home the schedule of visits on the first day of class.

This year, we are holding our French classes in partnership with the YMCA in Old Town Maine; classes will take place at the Y. The spring session will run from March 5-May 6, 2018 (their second winter session). The Y provides transportation to the Y from Old Town, Milford, Alton, Bradley, and Orono elementary schools; sign-up for after-school French will occur through the YMCA.

We will hold classes on Mondays for K-2 and Wednesdays for grades 3-5.

Cost is $60 for the nine-week program.
