I am an Associate Professor of Modern Languages and Literatures and Director of Franco American Studies at The University of Maine; I am currently the secretary for ACQS. I have two major areas of research.  The first examines early modern representations of Canada, with particular attention to the place of writing in ethnography, the importance of New France in European depictions of the Americas, and the role of gender in the experience of cultural difference. My second area examines contemporary Franco American literature, where I show its significance to the broader arenas of ethnic and American studies. I have published on Lahontan, Diderot, and Kerouac and am currently working on a book-length manuscript on Franco American fiction.
