Our workshops can help you build the skills you need to start your food business.
Beth Calder, Ph.D. Extension Food Science Specialist, offers several workshop options.
A multiple-session workshop series called Recipe to Market is offered in several counties in Maine per year. She teams with a local UMaine Extension county educator and James McConnon, Extension Business and Economics Specialist, to offer a unique workshop to help you from the food to business aspects of starting a food business. Check the UMaine Extension calendar of events or contact your UMaine Extension county office for information about a workshop near you.
If a one-day workshop is all that you need or you are a farmer thinking of producing value-added food products, you may want to attend MOFGA’s Kitchen Licensing Workshop. Beth helps teach in most of these workshops, as well.
Have you been told that you need to attend HACCP (Hazard Analysis Critical Control) plan certification or Better Process Control School to meet FDA regulations?
Beth organizes most of the HACCP and BPCS trainings at the University of Maine in Orono and we have a continuous waiting list if you are interested in attending one of these future workshops. Please contact Melissa Libby at firstname.lastname@example.org or 1.800.287.7170.
