Description: NA2328 A large collection of various materials reflecting the work of Refugee Arts Group, an organization working with newly arrived immigrants from Southeast Asia in Massachusetts during the 1980s. The organization was dissolved and its business records and artistic files were deposited at the Maine Folklife Center by the RAG director, Nancy Sweezy. Included are approximately ten linear feet of manuscript material comprised of grant applications and reports, contacts lists, correspondence, tape and video log sheets and transcripts, festival planning documentation, promotional materials, artist backgrounds, clippings about art, music, and craft traditions of Southeast Asia, and newsletters and journals relating to immigration. Cultures represented are Cambodian, Laotian, Vietnamese, Hmong, and Thai. The collection contains extensive documentation of Southeast Asian popular and classical music and dance on audio and video tapes. Transcriptions of 166 interviews with Hmong, Laotian, Vietnamese and Cambodian Khmer individuals. Included also are 18 video taped interviews.
