Who We Are

The Maine Folklife Center is an independent unit of the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences at the University of Maine. It has research, education, and community engagement missions that align with those of the College and the University as a whole.

The Center has both historical connections and current affiliations with many other Centers, Departments and Programs throughout the University. Perhaps most important is its long-standing ties with the Department of Anthropology, thanks in part to the faculty appointments of its current and former Directors. The home of the Center is adjacent to the main office of the Anthropology Department in South Stevens Hall on the Orono campus.

The section links below provide more information on our current Crew (staff), our Family History (past directors), and our Guides (advisors and affiliates).
