Cashing in on Business Opportunities Curriculum

Home-Based and Micro-Based Businesses: Cashing In on Business Opportunities logo: The Cashing in on Business Opportunities curriculum has been revised and updated and is now available, for the first time ever, online for free.

Cashing in on Business Opportunities is an educational curriculum especially designed for Extension and other educators who work with home-based and micro-businesses. This comprehensive curriculum covers a wide array of business topics for both current and potential business owners.

The curriculum consists of 22 chapters on a variety of business management topics. Each chapter consists of a leader’s guide – complete with goals, objectives, a narrative, and handouts – as well as an accompanying PowerPoint presentation. With these resources, Cashing thrives in a variety of educational uses, including:

  • As a reference tool for educators or entrepreneurs,
  • As a single-topic short course covering only one lesson,
  • As a multi-topic workshop covering several lessons, or
  • As a comprehensive course covering all lessons.

This curriculum was originally developed by CSREES Home-Based and Micro-Business National Design Team as a part of the Communities in Economic Transition National Initiative in 1997. The Cashing in on Business Opportunities curriculum has been revised and updated to match current business practices and concerns and can be found at the Southern Rural Development Center’s Web site at http://srdc.msstate.edu/cashing/.
