Internships & Study Abroad - Stillwater Environmental Engineering

Stillwater Environmental Engineering, Inc. (SEE) seeks enthusiastic and well-organized student interns for assistance with a variety of environmental compliance tasks.  These tasks are in support of regulatory permit requirements that the Bangor Area Stormwater Group (BASWG) must perform to comply with the Maine Department of Environmental Protection’s (MDEP) Stormwater Program. The primary focus of the work will be in support of public education and outreach and public involvement activities associated with stormwater pollution prevention in the Bangor urbanized area.

Interested applicants should submit a cover letter, resume and three references to Julie Eubanks in the EES office via FirstClass.

The BASWG requests support for the following compliance tasks for the period between February 1st and December 31st, 2014:

  • Storm drain stenciling project coordination
  • Regional stream cleanup preparation and support
  • BASWG website maintenance and upkeep
  • Electronic media outreach support
  • Participate in bi-monthly meetings with BASWG education and outreach committee

All activities performed by interns in support of the education and outreach efforts for the BASWG will be closely supervised by SEE.  A complete job description of all duties to be performed will be developed and communicated with all interns selected for the tasks above.   Project deadlines and expectations will be clearly communicated with all students selected for the work.   Regular progress reports will be necessary throughout the year to ensure that satisfactory progress is being made for specific tasks.

The work is often variable in nature due to the timing of specific education and outreach activities required for regulatory permit compliance.  However, on average, an expectation of four to six hours per week is anticipated.  Occasional weekend work is included for this project, as many of the public involvement and outreach events must occur on weekends.

Travel is expected for the completion of several of the tasks and interns must have their own vehicle.  Travel expenses are included as part of the compensation for services provided.  Depending on qualifications, compensation will be in the range of $10 to $12 per hour.
