Internships & Study Abroad - FB Environmental Associates

FB Environmental is seeking an intern from the University of Maine to assist with a variety of environmental projects throughout Maine and New Hampshire. The intern position provides on-the-job experience to a promising and motivated candidate who intends to pursue an environmental/water resources career. In turn, FB Environmental will provide meaningful opportunities and valuable field experience. The selected candidate will work primarily out of the Portland, ME office, with some work out of the Portsmouth, NH office as needed.

Work Duties

  • Field Work- Assist with lake and stream sampling, wetland delineations and habitat assessments
  • Research Assignments- Conduct targeted scientific literature reviews, search town records
  • Mapping- Assist with GIS mapping and GPS data collection
  • Equipment- Assist with equipment maintenance and upkeep of monitoring equipment
  • Data Management- Assist with data entry and summarization for field projects
  • Administrative Tasks- Assist with phone calls, meeting organization, document preparation
  • Junior or Senior University of Maine student majoring in Environmental Science or related major
  • Good written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong public-service motivation
  • Three references including one from a professor in your major
  • Carry out all internship responsibilities professionally and promptly.
  • Show initiative and teamwork
  • Clear and proactive communication with FBE
  • 32 and 40 hours per week – will vary according to project needs
  • May Term: May 12- May 30
  • Summer: June 1 – August 30 (can be extended for graduating senior)
  • Some early mornings, Saturdays, and out of state travel may be required
  • Provide practical experience in the type of work that we do
  • Provide Intern with direct on-the-job oversight and training
  • Provide constructive feedback on job performance, in part, so intern can pursue additional training and professional development on their own
  • Professional reference commensurate with job performance
  • On-the-job experience in a very good working environment
  • Pay rate of $11/hr – no benefits
  • Travel will be reimbursed at $0.50/mile
  • A weekly time sheet will be filled out- paid every other Friday
  • Parking is the intern’s responsibility

Intern Qualifications

  • Junior or Senior University of Maine student majoring in Environmental Science or related major
  • Good written and verbal communication skills
