B.A. in Biology from Luther College
Why did you choose to attend grad school at UMaine? Why did you choose EES?
I chose UMaine for two reasons: a) the great sustainable agriculture research being done here, and b) the interdisciplinary nature of the EES program, which allows me the freedom to explore my diverse interests in agricultural science, evolutionary biology, mathematical modeling, and STEM education.
Briefly describe the research project you are working on.
I am studying the effects of space and habitat variability agricultural weed seed predation, an ecosystem service that may be of benefit to Maine organic farmers.
What has been your favorite classes at UMaine so far?
BIO 597 Sexual Selection with Dr. Brian Olsen.
What has been your most rewarding research experience and why?
Every goal met, project completed, or problem solved is immensely rewarding; that’s the thing I love most about research!
What advice do you have for prospective graduate students?
Keep calm and drink tea.
