100_1775-001What year and semester did you begin EES graduate studies?
Fall 2013

What degree are you pursuing?
PhD in Ecology & Environmental Science

Who is your academic advisor?
 Dr. Yong Chen

What prior degrees do you have?
B.A. in Political Science, M.A. in Environmental Policy, and M.S. in Environmental Science

Why did you choose to attend grad school at UMaine? Why did you choose EES?
I wanted to study fisheries in the north.

Briefly describe the research project you are working on.
Modeling environmental impacts on recruitment dynamics to improve the stock assessment of American lobster in southern New England and Gulf of Maine

What have been your favorite classes at UMaine so far? If you are new to UMaine, which classes are you most looking forward to taking?
 Population Dynamics in Fisheries

What has been your most rewarding research experience and why? If you are new to UMaine, what are your research goals?
My research goal is to seek sustainability of commercial and recreational fisheries through ecosystem-based management, and applications of quantitative/statistical methods. Within this framework, I am specifically interested in; (1) analyzing how fisheries will be affected by various factors, (2) examining ecosystem services and bioeconomic grounds for conservation and restoration of fisheries, (3) studying trends in fishery parameters to make predictions for future uncertainty.

What advice do you have for prospective graduate students?
Read your textbooks. You will be tested on materials that is not covered during lectures.

Are you interested in mentoring undergraduates?
Maybe.
