Clinical Education – Professional Agencies
The following is list of agencies, organizations and professional services that you, the ATS, should become familiar with. You should also review aspects of this with our Clinical Experience Supervisor so they can keep you updated on the most current information.
National Athletic Trainers’ Association
You should visit the website www.nata.org on a regular basis. Also, it is strongly encouraged that you become an NATA member and to become involved on the national, district and/or state level as early in your career as possible.
As a student at the University of Maine, you would be a member of District 1. Visiting this website will familiarize you with possible scholarships and upcoming educational sessions. You can also become familiar with the governmental set-up of our national organization and recognize the importance of becoming a volunteer.
Eastern Athletic Trainers’ Association
This association is comprised of District 1 and 2 members and offers many quality education programs for the athletic trainer. The website www.goeata.org has some valuable information regarding scholarships and educational programs available to athletic training students.
Maine Athletic Trainers’ Association
Maine has a strong state association that is run by elected members on a volunteer basis. The website www.gomata.org lists the make-up of the organization, educational opportunities, potential job listings and scholarship listings.
National Athletic Trainers’ Association Board of Certification
You should become very familiar with this incorporation. Visit their Web page at www.bocatc.org for information relevant to you. They provide valuable information regarding the athletic training certification exam as well as sample tests. The BOC has set specific Domains of Athletic Training of which you will want to become familiar.
National Athletic Trainer’s Association Education Council
The NATA has many specialized committees and councils. The Education Council (EC) is responsible for our current curriculum. The University of Maine Athletic Training Education Program follows the Education Competencies and Proficiencies put forth by the EC.
