Undergraduate - Teacher Certification

The Maine Department of Education has the sole authority to issue certificates for teaching. However, the Office of the Dean of the College of Education & Human Development is in a position to advise prospective teachers concerning certification.

Upon successful completion of the Education program and the PRAXIS I & II examination, students are eligible for the provisional teaching certificate at either the elementary or secondary school level. The College also provides an Education Minor and a Master of Arts in Teaching program for students who wish to pursue teacher certificates in Maine.

Applications for the Teacher Certification Option are available from Pamela Kimball, the Field Experiences and Certification Program Director. It is the student’s responsibility to secure current certification information and the actual certification directly from the Maine Department of Education.
