Through these experiences, Dr. Shannonhouse became curious about the degree to which counselor training programs incorporate international activities into counselor preparation.  This investigation included national surveys and site visits to counselor education programs across the United States, which resulted a study that examined the relationships between 510 counselor-trainee’s (a) multicultural counseling competence, (b) cultural immersion experiences, and (c) cognitive/emotional developmental styles.

Dr. Shannonhouse has disseminated her work through peer-reviewed publications and presentations at local, national, and international conferences.  She has received research and best practice grants from the Association for Counselor Educators and Supervisors (ACES), Southern Association for Counselor Educators and Supervisors (SACES), and Chi Sigma Iota International.  In 2011, Dr. Shannonhouse received the Courtland C.
