I arrived at the University of Maine in 1982, and retired in 2017 to become an Emeritus Professor.  My research is interdisciplinary, combining stratigraphy, sedimentology, Quaternary paleoclimates and geoarchaeology.  My main research themes have included sea-level change, coastal plain stratigraphy, glaciated coasts and shelves, and coastal geoarchaeology.  Specific research projects have included nearshore and inner shelf sedimentation and stratigraphy, coastal sediment processes and geomorphology, salt marsh environments, and effects of deglacial isostasy on shelf, coastal and lake systems in Maine and the Gulf of Maine, Northern Ireland and the Irish Sea, Peru, the Atlantic coastal plain and shelf, the eastern Mediterranean, and the Caribbean. I am no longer actively recruiting graduate students, but I remain active on projects and in advising as appropriate.
