Robotics Expo Update

University of Maine Cooperative Extension hosted a Robotics Expo on Saturday, Oct. 27, to help youth ages 5-18 develop life skills and build math and engineering skills

More than eighty youth participated in the event.

In the morning, individuals and teams had the opportunity to share their ideas and creations with judges and other participants in a noncompetitive science fair-type format. During the day, youngsters participated in a workshops where they practiced and built robots of all sizes. The day ended with an on-site challenge event, where teams built trebuchets designed to launch for height, distance and strength.

Volunteers included 4-H volunteers, parents and engineering professionals from the community, such as University of Maine Black Bear Robotics, American Society of Civil Engineers, University of Southern Maine Computer Science Department, Portland Police Department, Maine Energy Education Program. Volunteers contributing more than 280 hours towards the success of the event.
