Over the past decade, Dr. Parker Palmer, an educational activist and author of Courage to Teach®, and colleagues across the country have created an extraordinary approach to addressing this need for personal and professional renewal.
Focused initially on public school teachers and leaders, Courage to Teach® programs include day-long, multi-day and seasonal weekend gatherings to renew the personal identity, professional integrity and vocational vitality of educators.
The retreats focus neither on “technique” nor on school reform, but on renewing the inner lives of professionals in education.
To familiarize yourself with the work of Parker Palmer, you may wish to read, The Courage to Teach: Exploring the Inner Landscape of a Teacher’s Life, and visit his website at www.couragerenewal.org/parker.
Who would benefit from Courage to Teach®?
We welcome all educators in Maine, from pre-K teachers through university faculty, professionals and para-professionals and school leaders who are committed to their own personal and professional development and renewal in their work in diverse settings across the state.
