Meet the Staff - Daniel Robbins
About Me
I grew up in Deer Isle, Maine with my mother, father, older brother, and dog. My extended family is so large that we actually have to use the local event hall just to have a family get-together. Ever since my brother took a psychology class in high school, I have been fascinated by the human mind. Thus, I pursued and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology from the University of Maine. During my undergraduate years, I moved off-campus with my girlfriend and we adopted a Maine Coon cat, Leo. After a year off, I entered the Master of Social Work program here at UMaine and I am now in my second and final year of that program. Aside from my interest in psychology and counseling, I am also an avid gamer—both board games and video games. For me, a day without playing at least one game of chess is a day that’s not yet complete!
What has been your most embarrassing moment?
There are so many:
· Every time I tell someone I grew up on an island but I never learned how to swim.
· When, as a sixteen-year-old, I had to spend the summer on crutches because I never properly learned to ride a bike (I fell off and got small fractures in my knee).
· When, in third grade, I actually forgot how to tie my shoes (I wore Velcro shoes for a year after learning).
· When I tell a person that I am red-green colorblind and they respond, “What color is this?”
· When I automatically got rejected from a graduate program…because I forgot to fill out some of the paperwork (seriously, pay attention to this!)
What is your favorite comfort food?
A big plate of cube steak with barbecue sauce.
If you could take a trip anywhere in the world, where would you go?
I would enjoy visiting Tibet. I believe that I would be able to learn so much from immersing myself in the cultures and there are some incredible landscapes.
