Psychiatric services are provided by Keith Hutchison, M.D. and may include evaluation and prescription of medications designed to address psychological symptoms ranging from mild to severe. Examples of symptoms that may be treated with medication are depression, anxiety, sleeplessness, inattention, mania or psychosis. Please be mindful that not all symptoms require medical intervention, most students are treated with therapy alone. Our staff is aware that many students do not wish to seek psychiatric intervention and we respect the student’s right to decline this service.
An appointment with our psychiatric consultant is the only service for which the Counseling Center currently charges a fee. These costs are generally comparable or less than similar services provided in the community. Fees are:
Methods of Payment
The Counseling Center/University of Maine cannot bill private insurance companies. The exception is if you purchased the university student insurance policy. We will provide you with a bill which you can submit to your private insurance carrier for reimbursement.
Due to the great demand for these services, we ask that you cancel within 24 hours prior to your appointment if you cannot attend. If you do not inform us prior to missing an appointment, you will be charged the full amount for the session.
