Susan Burgess is a departmental lecturer and staff speech-language pathologist. She provides clinical education and supervision for graduate students at the Conley Speech, Language and Hearing Center and in various off-campus settings. In addition to supervising the speech therapy services for clients in the on campus clinic setting, Susan involves students as she lead consults for adult clients with developmental disabilities who live in group home situations as part of the Mobius Inc. program by working with the clients’ care providers using a coaching method to identify communication barriers and to problem solve ways to enhance communication with the client. Her experience in the field of speech pathology is diverse; she has worked with both the preschool and school-age populations in various settings as well as with adult clients in homecare, skilled nursing, and long-term healthcare facilities.
