The UMaine Chapter of the National Student Speech Language Hearing Association participates in many events to benefit local communities and fundraises to help groups worldwide. Locally, we participate in the Hike for Hearing, which benefits the Warren Center for Communication and Learning, and the Walk for Autism, which benefits the Autism Society of Maine. We also make goodie bags for the children at the Conley Speech and Hearing Center for various holidays.
Our chapter fundraises through bake sales, raffles, and dinners for SmileTrain and NSSLHA Loves. Each year the national executive council chooses a national organization that works with people living with communication disorders. This year the National Center for Family Literacy was chosen.
Meetings are held monthly. In addition to meetings, NSSLHA hosts socials for its members, which allows us to learn more about each other in a less formal setting. We do activities such as movie and game nights, Zumba socials, and dinners.
