Students and Faculty Event Information
Decorum and Behavior
Commencement is a dignified occasion. In the best tradition of the University of Maine, we expect those attending the commencement ceremony to conduct themselves in an appropriate manner. Alcoholic beverages are strictly prohibited and UMaine Police will strictly enforce this policy. Mobile phones should be set to silent at the beginning of the ceremony and should remain so for the duration of the event. The university community appreciates your cooperation in maintaining the dignity of this occasion.
When and Where to Assemble — Students
All students will assemble in the New Balance Field House. Students should arrive at least 30 minutes prior to each ceremony. Each ceremony will last approximately 90 minutes. Please be prepared to remain in the main arena and seated through the entire ceremony, with the exception of crossing the stage. There are restrooms available in the Field House for use prior to each ceremony.
Reader Card
If you wish to march on Saturday, May 11th, you must visit the Bookstore at the Memorial Union to pick up your blank reader card by Friday, May 10th. It is very important that you bring the blue, completed, reader card with you to the ceremony. Additional reader cards will be available in the New Balance Field House the day of Commencement. If you are in need of a replacement card, please arrive early to ensure time to complete your card. These cards allow the reader to clearly announce your name as you cross the stage.
Student Regalia (Cap and Gown)
All graduating students are required to wear regalia (cap and gown) to the ceremony. Undergraduate students may purchase a cap and gown at the University Bookstore on the lower level of the Memorial Union.
| Senior Cap, Gown and Tassle | $22.50 |
| Master’s Cap, Gown and Tassle | $27.50 |
| Master’s Hood | $22.50 |
| Doctoral Regalia Rental (you keep the Tam) | $185.00 |
