Guest Seating

The May 10th, 2014, University of Maine Commencement Ceremonies are ticketed events. Tickets will be required for all guests to enter the Arena. Doors open at 8 a.m. Early arrival is recommended to avoid traffic congestion and obtain choice seating. Floor seating is reserved for graduating students, faculty and individuals with special needs.

Special Accommodations

Special accommodations are available so that commencement ceremonies may be enjoyed by all guests. Wheelchairs are available for transportation within the Alfond Arena only. If a guest must be seated in a wheelchair for the ceremony duration, please bring one with you. Accommodations are also available for those who are hearing impaired. Please contact Sara Henry, Assistant Director of Disability Support Services at 207.581.2319, TTY 207.581.2325 or by email at by Friday, April 25th with any special accommodation requests or questions.


Parking is available on a first come, first served basis. Accessible shuttle buses will run continuously beginning at 8am from designated parking lots on campus to the Alfond Arena and back. Guests with special needs will be directed to appropriate parking by Campus Police. If you have a special needs permit, please have it displayed.

Attendance Policies

Alcohol—Maine laws and university regulations prohibit alcohol at Commencement exercises. This policy is strictly enforced.

Backpacks, large bags and strollers—Backpacks, large tote bags and strollers are not permitted in the Alfond Sports Arena.

Smoking—The University of Maine is a tobacco free campus.

Each ceremony will last up to two hours. For safety reasons, no person, other than credentialed photographers and staff, may approach the stage for any reason. Guests should remain seated for the duration of the ceremony until the stage party and faculty have left the arena. Students do not march out of the arena.

Food and beverage refreshments will be available inside the Alfond Arena from Concessions. Concession purchases may be made up until the start of each ceremony.
