Staff - Darren J. Reid, Cohen Research Associate
Prior to joining the William S. Cohen Center, Darren completed his undergraduate and postgraduate studies in his native Scotland. He holds a Master of Research (Merit) in Global Security from the University of Glasgow, as well as a Master of Arts (Hons) in Politics from the University of Dundee.
His master’s thesis was titled “National Security Intelligence: Lessons for an independent Scotland.” You can download a copy of it here.
Darren’s research at the Cohen Center focuses on the relationship between the United States and Russia, and its future given the recent deterioration of bilateral relations between the two states. His project, entitled “U.S.-Russia Relations: Through the Lenses of the Cohen Papers,” is expected to be completed in the Summer of 2015. Darren is working closely with renowned academic Professor James Warhola, the current chair of the University of Maine’s Political Science Department.
He has also established a student-based research journal at the University. The Cohen Journal for Leadership and Democracy focuses on issues of importance to American domestic and foreign policy. The Journal will solicit submissions from undergraduate and postgraduate students, primarily within the University’s Political Science Department, the School of Policy and International Affairs and the Honors College. The first issue of CJLD is expected to be published in the Fall semester of 2014.
Darren also serves as Communication and Project Support Officer at the independent research institute, Scottish Global Forum (SGF). SGF is dedicated to the analysis of policy issues that are of significance to Scotland and its place in the international community. Darren is a frequent contributor on issues of foreign policy, security and intelligence.
