First Year Commuters (Recent High School Graduates)

First Year (FY) Commuters

Are you a recent high school graduate? Starting your first year in college? Will you be commuting from off-campus (not living on-campus in the residence halls)?

That makes you a FY Commuter!

You are part of a relatively small group of first year students who have chosen not to live on-campus in UMaine residence halls. Most, but not all, FY Commuters are commuting from their family home, and many commute within 30 miles of the UMaine campus. Regardless of where you live off-campus, and whether you live with your parents, roommates, or alone, you are a FY Commuter. As a commuter student in general at UMaine, you are part of a larger group (63% of our undergraduates are commuters) who commute to the UMaine classes. As a commuter student, you have total access to all CNTSP services and programs available. Additionally, as a first year student, the First Year and Transfer Center also provides services, support and programs designed to assist you in your first year in college.

1) The First Year and Transfer Experience and Commuter and Non Traditional Student Programs (CNTSP) provide support, advocacy and academic services for you as a first year student and a commuter.

2) New Student Summer Orientation :

Congratulations on your acceptance to the University of Maine. You will be part of a small group of new students who will be commuting to the UMaine campus. The CNTSP wants to welcome you to UMaine and assist you in having a successful university experience.
