First Year Commuters (Recent High School Graduates)
First Year COMMUTERS
Are you a recent high school graduate? Starting your first year in college ? Will not be living on campus in the residence halls?
THAT MAKES YOU A FY COMMUTER
You are part of a relatively small group of 18-19 first year students who have chosen to not live on campus in UMaine residence halls. Most but not all FY Commuters are commuting from their family home and most ( but not all) commute within 30 miles of the UMaine campus. But regardless of where off campus you live and whether you are living with your parents roommates or alone you are a FY Commuter. As a Commuter at UMaine you are part of a large group ( 63% of our undergraduates are commuters ) who commute to the UMaine classes. As a commuter student all the services and programs of CNTSP are available to you. And as a First year student, the First Year Center also provides services, support and programs designed to assist you in your first year in college .
2) New Student Summer Orientation : All new students are invited to attend the summer orientation session related to your major or department. Even if you will be commuting you may want to consider staying over night in the residence halls for the Summer Orientation session. The overnight stay includes lots of fun activities and the chance to meet other new students in your major. Also don’t miss the special afternoon session on Day One at 2:30 for new student- commuters .
