Summer Orientation / Maine Hello for First Year Commuters ( Recent High School Grads )
First Year COMMUTERS
Are you a recent high school graduate ? Starting your first year in college ? Will not be living on campus in the residence halls
THAT MAKES YOU A FY COMMUTER
You are part of a relatively small group of 18-19 first year students who have chosen to not live on campus in UMaine residence halls. Most but not all FY Commuters are commuting from their family home and most ( but not all) commute within 30 miles of the UMaine campus . But regardless of where off campus you live and whether you are living with your parents roommates or alone you are a FY Commuter. As a Commuter at UMaine you are part of a large group ( 63% of our undergraduates are commuters ) who commute to the UMaine classes. As a commuter student all the services and programs of CNTSP are available to you. And as a First year student , the First Year Center also provides services , support and programs designed to assist you in your first year in college .
The First Year Center is located in Androscoggin Hall and is a go-to place for any first-year student who needs any kind of assistance. Whether you have a personal problem, an academic problem, or just need someone to talk to, we’re here for you! For more information about our services and resources available to first-year students, check out our website: umaine.edu/fye/
The Commuter and Non-Traditional Student Programs (CNTSP) assist commuter and non-traditional students in connecting with the UMaine community and successfully pursuing their academic goals. An example is through the M-Project, an exciting and interactive program that matches new students with experienced students to guide them through their first year on the UMaine campus.
