COMMUTING FIRST YEAR STUDENTS
As you know you are one of the small number of 18-21 year old students who will be a commuter for their first year at UMaine. While the University of Maine does have a First Year Residency Requirement occasional exceptions are made. If you are a recent high school graduate who will be commuting to UMaine, Commuter and Non traditional Student Programs (CNTSP) wants to welcome you to UMaine and assist you in having a successful university experience.
NEW COMMUTER TRANSFER STUDENTS
You will be joining the 63% of UMaine undergraduates who live off campus . CNTSP provides services and resources for these commuters and wants to help you get involved and feel at home at UMaine
Even though you won’t be living on campus CNTSP encourages you to attend the full on campus summer orientation session, including the overnight stay in the residence halls. There will be lots of activities to help you meet other new students and learn about what UMaine has to offer you. During the afternoon of Day One of each Summer Orientation Session there will be an information session specifically for new commuting (First Year & Transfers) students . You’re encouraged to attend this.
M PROJECT GUIDES
Also sign up for an M Project Guide on the web site. M Project Guides are returning UMaine students who have been commuters and have volunteered to assist you here at UMaine. Just complete the web based application so I can match with an M Project Guide. Your M Project guide will contact you in August.
Also once you have activated your First Class account , you’ll want to subscribe to the ‘Commuter Services ‘ First Class conference , which can be found directly under the ‘Student Resources ‘ folder on your desk top, Check your Commuter Services folder often as it will be keep you up to date on the programs and activities UMaine offers for commuter students.
