UMaine Campus Crime Statistics

The University of Maine is committed to informing the public so that they are safety-conscious. The following statistics, provided in compliance with the Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act of 1998, as amended, are for your information. If you have any questions, contact the UMaine Police Department at (207) 581-4053.

In compliance with the Clery Act, statistics will be disclosed in four categories:

  1. On Campus (All educational buildings and other property on campus).
  2. Residential Facilities for Students (Residence Halls, fraternities, and sorority houses).
  3. Non-Campus (Remote facilities and other properties that are student used).
  4. Public Property within, or immediately adjacent to and accessible from the campus.

Refer to these crime definitions to have a better understanding of the types of crimes that are occurring and their frequency.

In complying with the letter and spirit of applicable laws and in pursuing its own goals of diversity, the University of Maine System shall not discriminate on the grounds of race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, national origin or citizenship status, age, disability, or veterans status in employment, education, and all other areas of the University. The University provides reasonable accommodations to qualified individuals with disabilities upon request.Questions and complaints about discrimination in any area of the University should be directed to Karen Kemble, Executive Director of Equal Opportunity, The University of Maine, Room 101, 5754 North Stevens Hall, Orono, ME 04469-5754, telephone (207) 581-1226 (voice) (207) 581-9484 (TDD).

Note – In the past we have counted the civil infractions of illegal possession of alcohol and marijuana as arrests because people were summoned to court. The 2011 edition of The Handbook for Campus Safety and Security Reporting, says that civil citations should not be counted as arrests, thus the large drop in arrests for drug and alcohol offenses in calendar year 2010.

*On Campus category includes incidents reported in Residence category.
