In April, 2011 the Department of Chemistry, in conjunction with the ACS Maine Section ^[1], hosted eight high school students who participated in the U.S. National Chemistry Olympiad ^[2]contest. Students tested their chemistry knowledge and skills with a written exam in the morning and, after a break for lunch, a lab exam in the afternoon. Dr. Bob Buntrock, President of the ACS Maine Section organized the event and UMaine undergraduate chemistry majors and graduate students proctored the event. The Chemistry Department provided lunch in the Market Place for all students and proctors.
