The 2011 Camden International Film Festival Course
SMALL TOWNS, BIG FILMS
Announcing a special three-credit UMaine course with four classes on Saturdays – September 17, September 24, November 5 and December 3 plus festival attendance on September 29 – October 2, 2011.
Course Description
This course will teach students to critically assess documentary films, so that they can participate fully in the Camden International Film Festival. Preparatory classes will engage students in the critical language, history, and potentials of documentary filmmaking. Besides attending the screenings at the Festival, students will have opportunities to discuss the films in public forums, and meet for further dialogues in seminar conferences with some of the filmmakers and key industry leaders. Selected final projects may be screened at the 2012 festival.
Attendance is required throughout the entire Camden International Film Festival in Camden and Rockland on September 29 – October 2, 2011. This includes film screenings and events beginning Thursday evening through Sunday evening. Attendance is also required at all class meetings during the festival at 3 PM on Thursday, 9 AM on Friday and Saturday, and 10 AM on Sunday. Students must provide their own transportation and lodging during the festival.
Attendees have the opportunity for intimate interaction with filmmakers through events specifically created to facilitate such relationships. These events include panels, workshops, special events, and musical performances, all of which are open to students enrolled in the course.

There are no pre-requisites for this course and faculty permission is not required.
Students in this course receive a VIP Pass which allows:
