Co-op/Internship Job Search Guidelines

Each year, UM students obtain interesting, substantial, and career-related co-op positions or internships. The keys to success are preparation and an early start to the job search process.

Register with CareerLink

  • To register with UMaine CareerLink, go to the Career Center and click on CareerLink. You can create your own username and password to be used to log in from then on.  Click on Resumes to upload your resume and transcript.
  • As employers contact the Career Center to request specific majors for co-op/internship positions and as employment inquiries are made; job information will be available through UMaine CareerLink.  When employers interview on-campus for cooperative education or internship positions, the information will be posted in CareerLink.  You can submit your resume electronically to apply for an interview.
  • This registration isn’t the “official course registration” for academic credit, which must be completed with your academic advisor and department co-op/intern coordinator prior to a work term:  semester or summer session.

Discuss Job Search Strategy

Plan to schedule an appointment with Career Center staff for job search assistance, which could include cover letter, resume and pre-employment preparation.  Assistance will be provided in the identification of potential co-op & internship employers.

Contact Your Department Internship/Co-op Coordinator

The Career Center lists their names and contact information.  You will need to discuss the academic requirements of a work/learning course, number of credits for which tuition is charged, the evaluation procedures, and must obtain your Academic Co-op/Intern Coordinator’s approval of a qualified co-op or internship position related to your academic major.
